How to Pick a Sports Medicine Professional

On August 25, 2016, in Sports Medicine, by Dr. Dino Pappas

We’ve had several patients come for second opinions for their sports injuries. We found that they choose health care professionals who claimed to have sports medicine training when in fact they didn’t.  The other health care providers DID NOT:

  1. Understand the mechanism of injury
  2. Understand the proper time frame for safe return to play
  3. Understand the psyche of the injured athlete
  4. Have sufficient training for claiming sports medicine expertise
  5. Have any credible formalized training
  6. Have ongoing on the field experience
  7. Understand the unique mechanics of the athletes’ sports

If you lack the above qualities, then how can you call yourself a trained sports med professional?  You can’t.  Sports medicine is not just one of our services, it’s OUR PASSION!
